Mise-en-scene blog tasks

1) Find a distinctive still image and write an analysis of the mise-en-scene. Use each of the aspects you've learned in the lesson
The character is shirtless with what looks likes blood on his body. He is bald with a sinister look on his face maybe foreshadowing his intentions. The lighting is dark from one side and light on the other this could be due to the contrast in his different character in the movie. He looks injured this may be due to a fighting scene. the character is stood completely still with no slouching or relaxing nature this could highlight the strict lifestyle he may follow. His body is seen to be glistening which may indicate some strenuous physical activity causing him to sweat. He is behind what seems to be a cage of some sort. This could imply that he has committed some type of crime or injured someone and got hurt on his way.

2) Find TWO film or TV extracts on YouTube from different genres (e.g. horror, sci-fi, costume drama). Embed them in your blogpost and write a comparison of the mise-en-scene in each.

How I Met Your Mother: https://youtu.be/HYRyyb9A58k?si=mIyPuqW4ogAECKIR

In both Do Revenge a hybrid genre Teen Thriller/ Drama and How I Met Your Mother Comedy/Drama both have transformation or makeover scenes. But in Do Revenge(2022) makeover is a length pieces with many different outfits in pastel colours with bright lights to make the makeover more dramatic with makeup that’s pops to show the contrast between before and after whereas in How I Met Your Mother the transformation of Barney is more of a parody of 1941 Jekyll and Hyde film. The scene is in a white room with the character stood in the middle showing he’s the main focus of the scene. Then, there are many close up’s and medium close up’s of every change made to the characters appearance. They avoid any shots of the characters head or face as it’s the big reveal of his whole transformation at the end.
