Film Poster Analysis
I believe Blade Runner is a Science-Fiction movie. Science-Fiction movies tend to be associated with futuristic settings along with story-lines about saving the world from an out of world creature. This matches up with this poster due to the serious facial expressions, setting and props that are displayed the iconography of the gun, and flying above them seems to be an aircraft. I think the story line of this film has something to do with robots trying to destroy the world and the character Harrison Ford plays is in a chase with the robot woman also shown on the poster, hence the name 'Blade Runner'. The tagline 'man has made his match..now it's his problem' further conveys the idea that some sort of robotic humans are trying to take control of the world. The light around Harrison Ford's character could suggest his role in the movie of being the protagonist(the hero) whereas the female is shrouded in darkness maybe suggesting she is the antagonist (villain). The woman on the poster is also smoking. This was a common mise-en-scene used to portray a femme fatale- a deadly female.
I believe this film's genre is a drama. This is because the colours of this poster seem to be quite dark and dreary and there is a man standing alone in the foreground looking out at something that is far away from him. These factors indicate a story of loneliness and distance from the world. However, the tagline claims the movie is 'beautiful' and a 'joy' which conveys the idea of a happy ending which further convinces me this movie is a drama as there are high points and low points to the story.
I believe this film is a thriller as according to the tagline it's an 'award-winning thriller'. I think this film depicts a story of a boy living in a small town that has a mysterious hole in the ground that everyone is warned to stay away from. But this boy doesn't care for those warnings and goes down it anyway to face and overcome his fears only to find something evil lies within.
I believe this film belongs to the hybrid genre of action/drama. Almost every actor on this poster is holding a gun this conveys the idea that many fights will take place. Moreover, the title of the movie is in the colour red which could be symbolising blood, again referencing conflict.
I think this movie franchise is aimed at individuals aged 16+ due to the seriousness of the facial expressions of the actors on the poster and the more sinister take on the children's concept of pirates. The title of this movie- 'dead mans chest'- supports my assumption that this movie could be portraying the story of pirates trying to find treasure in a chest that a dead king perhaps left behind. I think this movie belongs to the genre of action as pirates are usually known to be fierce fighters so a battle or two must ensue in this movie
I think this movie may be a sports drama- another hybrid genre. I think this movie tells the story of an old boxer who decides to train the girl in the middle of the poster. This is due to the girl's hair being braided as well as the sports bra she seems to be wearing- these two factors imply she is partaking in some sort of sport. Due to the actors not having much light shone on them
